Jun 05, Kathmandu - The Ministry of Agriculture, Forest and Environment has sought suggestions from the general public and experts to manage the increasing human-wildlife conflict in the country.
The ministry has requested them to provide their suggestions within the next 15 days.
The 'Human-Wildlife Conflict Management Technical Task Force' formed as per the ministry's decision of 4th Jestha has taken up the work in this regard.
The task force includes representatives from the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, various ministries, the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation, Tribhuvan University, the National Nature Conservation Fund, as well as conservationists, economists, agricultural experts and veterinarians.
The task force has been given the responsibility of recommending short-term, medium-term and long-term solutions by reviewing reports, studies, policy arrangements and the current relief and compensation system.
The task force has stated that it is collecting suggestions, focusing in particular on measures to reduce damage to agricultural crops caused by monkeys, wild boars, nilgai and dumshi.
The task force's meeting held on 18 Jestha decided to seek extensive suggestions from federal, provincial and local government agencies, NGOs, experts and the general public.
Experts with experience in study, research and management on this issue have also been called upon to contribute to the task force as invited members.
Interested individuals or organizations can send their suggestions directly to the 'Secretariat of the Technical Task Force on Human-Wildlife Conflict Management' at the Ministry of Agriculture in Singha Durbar.
In addition, using modern technology, the ministry has made arrangements to send suggestions via email, mobile number or WhatsApp.
The task force will submit a detailed report to the government after incorporating the suggestions received. This is expected to play an important role in maintaining a balance between wildlife conservation and human security in the coming days.
